Maybe the curse has lifted!?

So I am hoping that the curse on my knitting has been lifted - finally. After much frogging I was able to finish the July Mid-Month KAL for the dishcloth group.

I love this pattern even if it was difficult to knit in the beginning. I kept losing stitches - ending up with 38 or 39 when I should of had 40. As always the details are located here. Now I can hopefully finish some of my other projects. I did have to frog back about 5 rows of my shawl at SNB of Wednesday and I have not touched it since then. Maybe I will try again tomorrow.

So this has been an interesting weekend. I worked yesterday for a few hours (yay for overtime) and we went to the Tiger game. I got sunburned. It is really bad on my right leg. Of course the only part that got burnt was from mid-thigh to my knee - the only part exposed to the sun. That should make for an interesting tan line! Then today we went to get the secretary that was at my aunt's house.

I love it! It used to be in the cabin up north and is pretty old. My hubby is not in love with it but is putting up with it for me. I don't know why my grandparents painted it avocado green but it was the 60s and that was in. Maybe we'll strip it one day but for now it will stay green.

Last week Meijer had Sugar 'n Cream on sale for $1.00 so I stopped by Friday after work. Their selection left a lot to be desired but I did get 5 balls.

I got light blue, black, sage green, wine and navy. I also just found out that Michaels is also selling Sugar 'n Cream this week for $1.00 so I will have to stop there one day this week and stock up before going on vacation.

I will try to update again before I leave for up north on Saturday but I make no guarantees. I have so much to do before we leave. If I don't get a chance I will see you all when I get back in August. Until next time....

Knitting Black Thumb

I have always had a gardening black thumb. I have killed every plant I ever attempted to own. One time I watered a plant to much and it molded. I did not even know plants could get mold. Another time I killed one of my mothers hanging baskets when they were on vacation. However, she had a green thumb and was able to save the poor thing after I forgot to water it. I now think that I have developed a knitting black thumb. Everything I have tried to knit in the past 2 days has gone to hell. Since Friday I have had to rip out my knit for the cure dishcloth because I had a big hole. I started another dishcloth twice but I ended up with 2 extra stitches both times so I have set that aside. Finally, I have no idea what I did to my shawl but my pattern is now off by about 5 stitches. I tried to go back a few rows yesterday and fix it but it didn't work. It is now in time out until I have the right mindset to rip out more rows and figure out where I screwed up. I think I will start the KAL that began today and I hope it will not become knitting disaster #4.

On a nicer note, here is only one of many reasons I have the best husband any girl could ask for. This morning he went out to the Royal Oak garage sale and he stopped by Ewe-nique Knits and bought me a present. He bought me 5 balls of yarn for $5 - can't beat that. Here's a picture of the booty - sorry I saw Pirates 2 last night and the pirate thing is sticking with me.

He got me 2 balls of Lana Grossa Tender, one ball of Liberty and 2 balls of Plymouth Encore DK. He also grabbed their class list because he saw that it had sock classes on it and he knows I want to learn how to knit socks. Isn't he wonderful?

Well I need to get ready - I am going to visit my new cousin - the one I knit the blanket for - today. I can't wait to get baby snuggles and to sniff her head - gotta love that baby smell! Until next time....

Good times, good times

So I had a pretty good weekend. Saturday was the Sit and Knit in downtown Rochester put on by Skeins on Main. There was a fairly good turnout considering it was not advertised very well. Christine from the Wednesday group and I had fun. She worked on her sweater and I work on my knit for the cure washcloth.

I absolutely love the this color. The color is not so blue in reality. It is actually a deep purple - it's beautiful in person.

On Sunday I took my oldest niece to see Carrie Underwood at the Fowlerville Fair. I am getting way to old for concerts. We were sitting in the 3rd row right in front of the speakers and my ears still haven't recovered. Carrie was very good though and even kept her cool when 2 lines into her last song the power blew. I guess she will remember little Fowlerville for a while.

Hubby and I leave for vacation two weeks from Saturday and I can not wait. A week of doing nothing but sitting on the dock, taking sauna, watching movies, reading and of course knitting. I am trying to plan out what projects to take with me - I am even making a list so I remember to take all the patterns, yarn and needles I'll need. The only thing I do not look forward to is the drive there and back. Here's the map of the route to show you why the drive is such a pain

It is a haul but it is absolutely beautiful there. I am so happy my grandparents decided to retire to the UP (upper peninsula for you non-Michigan folk). I have many great memories of my summer vacations up there as a kid. We did not have a lot of money when I was young so we probably would not have been able to take a vacation if they didn't live up there. All my parents really needed to pay for was gas and food on the way up and back. Well, I hope you all have a great hump day tomorrow. I'll be at Caribou knitting after work like usual. Until next time ....

A whole bunch of stuff

So after a hard day at work I came home to a wonderful package. I won the June birthday raffle over at the Yahoo Monthly Dishcloth group and the package had arrived! Along with a wonderful note from the moderator Janet I received 4 skeins of cotton yarn. From left to right is one ball of Sugar 'n Cream in Light Blue, one of Bernat Handicrafer Cotton in a cool variegated shade that reminds me of cotton candy (mmmmmm cotton candy), and 2 skeins of Fantasy Naturale in a pretty aqua and a variegated one in really pretty blues and greens. I never win anything so this was a wonderful surprise. Thanks Janet - you made turning 30 a lot brighter.

Speaking of the dishcloth group, today I finished the July KAL. Here is a picture.

I love dolphins and collect them so this will make a nice addition to my collection. Details are here like always.

Finally, I have a little plug to make. On Saturday from 11am-1pm Skeins on Main is hosting a sit and knit in downtown Rochester to benefit the team they have walking in the 3 Day Against Breast Cancer. For $10 you can reserve your place as well as get a copy of the knit for the cure dishcoth and a skein of CP Classic Cotton. If you don't want the pattern and yarn (but who seriously passes up yarn) you can donate $5 and reserve your space. You have to go into the store to sign up because they can only take cash or check for the donations. If you are free please come down and join me and the others as we fight to help end breast cancer. Then you can eat lunch at the former knitting mill and stay for the movies in the moonlight - they're showing The Wizard of Oz and who doesn't love that movie? Plus I'll be there so what other motivation do you need to come? Please - don't answer that! Until next time.

I don't know if I can do this

First off Happy 4th of July to all you Americans out there. I hope you all had great picnics, bbqs, fireworks and the like.

So I don't know if I can knit Birch. I attempted to start it tonight and it was not pretty. I think I need pointier needles. Mine are to dull to pick up the tiny thread. Also, I am not sure I like the Kidsilk that much. I only tried knitting with it for about an hour so maybe I am being premature but it is a bitch to work with. I actually may try to knit with smaller needles than the size 8s the pattern calls for. But for now the Birch is on hold. Maybe I will try this weekend when I'm not so tired. I am going to go have my evening snack and get ready to go back to work tomorrow. Until next time ....

Oh and happy anniversary to me

I started this blog one year ago today. My first post was actually entered around 3:30 am. Of course I made 6 entries and didn't have another post until December. But I have stuck through it and I am glad to have a record of my knitting projects out there. Now I will have some ice cream to celebrate. Until next time ....

The End of an Era

I am warning you now this is not a knitting entry. This is where I get very reminiscent about something that happened today. People who know me know that I love hockey, the Red Wings and especially Steve Yzerman. Heck, my email address is yzermanisgod19 at yahoo dot com. Today he announced his retirement and I am sad. Even though we knew it would happen I couldn't help but hope he would return. I have always been a fan. I was 7 years old when he started playing hockey here. I remember wanting to marry him so badly one day that I cried when I heard he had gotten married - I was 12 or 13 and broken hearted. I finally got to meet him at a signing last year and he was a class act. He was only supposed to sign for 2 hours but signed for several more. I stood in line for 3 hours before I got to him and the line was still out the door when I left. He was still as nice as could be while signing and he took pictures with everyone. A lot of professional athletes, hell celebrities in general, could learn a lot from him. He is truly a nice, down to earth guy - the Kobes, Shaqs and T.O.s of the world could learn a lot from him. I will miss you Stevie - even though it won't hit me until my first game next year. You will always be the captain of our hearts.

Don't Know Why ....

Blogger would not let me add this picture to my last post. So here is the Links of Lace bookmark I made for my Great Bookmark Exchange partner Tracey. She received her package last week so I can finally let you all see it.

As always details are located here. Ok I am signing off again. Until next time ....

My Birthday Gift to Myself

So here I am 6 days post birthday and I am feeling ok. Since it was a special occasion I decided to treat myself to something special. I have been thinking about knitting Birch for awhile and the Rowan sale at Skeins on Main gave me the perfect opportunity to get everything I need. So here is my 30th birthday gift to myself.

The Rowan #34 that holds the Birch pattern and 3 balls of Kidsilk Haze in color #589 Majestic (Amby was kind enough to leave me 3 balls of the same lot).

Here is a closeup of the knitters crack. It is so soft and furry in the ball I can only imagine what it will be like knitted up. Although I will admit I have been to scared to cast on yet but I hope to before Wednesday knitting group.

And especially for Kirsti here is a pic of my turquoise shawl. Obviously I did not finish this for my birthday dinner but I didn't wear my dress anyway. I need to lose some weight before I even dream about wearing that thing again.

Well that's it for now. I have to work tomorrow even though 90% of our customers are closed and several other people were given the day off. I really hate my job. But that's a rant for another day. I hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July and all you Canadians had a great Canada Day weekend. Until next time
