Stick a fork it it!

NaBloPoMo is over! I actually made it through. I am sorry if I bored any of you out there but I am glad I challenged myself to do this. Now back to your regular sporadic posts. Until next time ....

No Way Jose!

So some people are going right from NaBloPoMo to Holidailies. Holidailies is where you update your blog every day for the month of December. Robyn signed up for it and I thought about it for about 2 seconds but I came to my senses. While I am glad that I joined NaBloPoMo because I have wanted to for a few years now but this whole experience made me realize something. I lead a pretty boring life and no one needs to read about it every day. You can thank me later! Until next time ....

Shameless Cross Post

Ok so NaBloPoMo is almost over (only 4 more days!) and I am running out of steam here. So I am going to do a shameless cross post so here it goes. I wrote about the yummy dinner I made tonight here so go check it out. It is rare that the hubby and I both love a new recipe but this one was a real winner. If you like spaghetti and meat sauce this is a nice twist on the traditional. Until next time ....

Lagniappe

So what is Lagniappe? Well it is the officiall kickoff of the holiday season in Rochester. The stores all have sales and give little treats to their customers. Lagniappe is Creole for "a little something extra". Tonight the hubby and I went down to walk around and look at the light show. On a side note, if you are in the area I highly recommend the light show - all the buildings down Main Street have thousands of lights on them and it is amazingly beautiful. Hubby and I went into a couple of stores including one where we found quite a deal. There is a store called Sole Sisters that sells shoes and bags. That is where my wonderful hubby bought me an early Christmas gift.

We got this bag for 65% off! It was originally marked for $81 but we paid $36.50. I love it and hubby is nice enough to let me have it now instead of waiting a month for the big day.

While out we also went into the Hermitage Gallery. They had some wonderful pieces of art but there was one that really got me. This piece can be yours for the low low price of $500,000. I have been to the DIA, MOMA and the Met so I have seem priceless pieces of art but seeing a price tag like that on a piece took my breath away for a moment. Until next time ....

Where did 4 days go to?

Where did the last 4 days go? I feel like my holiday weekend just started and it is already time to go back to work. I hate that I feel like I did not accomplish anything except for being really lazy. I have knit and ripped back on my shawl twice now and it is not any further along than it was last Tuesday night. I am really starting to get worried that I am not going to make my self imposed Christmas Eve deadline. Of course it I got off the computer and knit for awhile that may help! Until next time ....

Gobble Gobble

From one of my email lists:

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

I am so thankful for my husband, my crazy family, my crazier friends, my job in this crappy Michigan economy, the fact that I am fairly healthy and the wonderful knitting community we are all a part of. Now bring on the bird and stuffing! Until next time ....

Slightly unprofessional

I know Tom Brady is totally hot but I can not believe this interview. Andrea Kramer is batting her eyelashes at him like a school girl in heat. She just set female sport reporters back about 20 years in the few minutes she attempted to interview him. Until next time ....

Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a b@!ch?

This is by far one of the funniest skits ever shown on TV. I miss Dave Chappelle, he is such a comedic genius. The background is that Dave made fun of Wayne Brady for being the whitest black man since Bryant Gumbel. Later they go out for a night on the town. It is long but so worth it.

Until next time ....

I could not make this up

I overheard a co-worker asking the following question to our plant supervisor today:

"So if we are closed Thursday and Friday does that mean we won't be making any deliveries on those days?"

I seriously think the blond hair dye is frying her brain cells! I have a feeling the next two days are going to be very slow!

Confession time

I have a confession to make. I hope my knitter card does not get revoked after this. My confession is that I really do not see the point of having a large stash. Now I do have a stash but it is pretty small compared to others I have seen. I love yarn and yarn stores but I have a hard time just buying yarn to buy it. If I have no idea what I am going to make with it then I probably will not buy it. The only exceptions I can see are sock yarn and lace weight yarns. I do not need to have an exact pattern in mind to buy those. I can also buy dishcloth cotton like there is no tomorrow. I am a pretty cheap person so the thought of buying yarn with no purpose seems so frivolous to me. What if I decide to make a sweater but I do not have enough? Or what if I only want to make a hat and I bought 10 skeins? I guess I will always be the person who buys only for projects. However, like my mama always told me different strokes for different folks. I will save all the yarn for your stashers out there! Until next time ....

A great day!

My Spartans beat Penn State today in their last regular season game. That means they finish with a 7-5 record and they will be going to a bowl game. More than likely they will be going to the Motor City Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit. Not the best bowl game in Spartan history but since we have not gone bowling since 2003 beggars can't be choosers!

To make the day even better the scUM lost to Ohio State - again! I loved seeing those arrogant little jerks get what was coming to them. As Coach Dantonio said pride does goeth before the fall. Hey Mike Hart who's the little brother now??? Until next time ....

Happy Happy Birthday Baby!

Happy Birthday to the best hubby a girl could ever ask for. I will even keep your age a secret from the internet! I love you.

School Play

So I just got back from my niece's 3rd grade play tonight and it was so adorable. It was called It's a Jungle Out There. The gist of the story is that Leo the Lion has money and power but he is not happy. He sends his employees, Stripes (a zebra) and Spots (a leopard), out into the jungle to find out what the meaning of happiness is. They meet many animals on their journey and soon learn that having good friends is the true definition of happiness. It was such a cute play with a great message. Plus it was only 30 minutes long so it did not seem to drag like a lot of school programs can. Until next time ....

Very Sad Story

This is one of the saddest stories I have heard. While this is a freak accident it should definitely remind all of us how dangerous football really is. When I was in high school I was a flag in the marching band. My junior year one of the football players was seriously injured in a game. He went to my church and he was not able to drive for 6 months afterward. I really feel for this kid's family and friends and hope they can find some peace. Until next time ....

Podcasts

So I am new to this whole podcasting thing but I am loving it. I listen to them at work when the whining and complaining gets to me. I love that even though I can not knit I can listen to people talk about knitting. Here are some of my favorites so far.

1) Cast On - I love Brenda's voice. I find it very soothing and relaxing to listen to. I love her philosophy on knitting and crafts in general.
2) Craft Lit - this combines two of my loves, books and knitting. I am still working my way through the archives of this one
3) Yarn Craft - this is brought to us by the folks at Lion Brand. While I was expecting this to be a big commercial for their products it really was not.
4) CRL - this podcast is brought to us by Vickie Howell of Knitty Gritty fame. I like that she talks about all sorts of crafts not just knitting.

Do you have any you can recommend? Until next time ....

Winter 2007 Interweave Knits

All in all I loved this issue of Interweave Knits. While there are patterns in the issue I would not knit there was nothing to put in the WTF files. Here are my favorites from the issue.

Celtic Tote by Jennifer Tallapaneni. I love the intricate cable on this bag. I also love the fact that it uses Lamb's Pride Worsted. I love finding patterns designed for affordable yarns.

Ivy League Vest by Eunny Jang. I am not usually drawn to all over Fair Isle designs but something about this just spoke to me. It does remind me of fall on a college campus.

Gathered Pullover by Nana Jason. Another pattern designed in an affordable yarn, Top of the Lamb by Brown Sheep. I love this but I a not sure how the major cable on the bust will look on a endowed woman like myself.

Until Next time ....

It's Finally Friday

I am SO glad the weekend is finally here. The first week after the time change is always hard on me. My body clock gets all messed up and I end up totally wiped out and exhausted. As a bonus I have nothing planned for the weekend so I will have plenty of time to relax. I look forward to knitting and catching up on the shows I have recorded on the DVR. Hopefully in my next entry I will have some knitting progress to show. I also received my winter Interweave Knits so I need to put a review of it up. Now I am going to read for a while and go to bed. Until next time ....

4 Years

At this time four years ago I had been a wife for approximately 90 minutes. I can hardly believe that today we are celebrating our fourth anniversary. Most of the time it seems like we have been married for only a few months. We have been through so much in the eight years we have been together and have truly overcome a lot of adversity that has made us closer. The death of parents, infertility, a crazy ex-wife, financial difficulties, depression and more. Happy anniversary baby - I love you!

To celebrate we went to the Kona Grill for dinner. Jerry had the sea bass and I had the macadamia nut chicken (which was wonderful) We both got dessert to go as a special treat. I guess the name Ultimate Brownie should have tipped me off but I was still amazed to see this when I opened the container.

My blood sugar went up just looking at it! I guess I will have dessert tomorrow too. Until next time ....

Struggling

I have nothing tonight. I did not sleep very well last night. I think I woke up 4 or 5 times for no real reason. Therefore I am completely exhausted. I could barely keep my eyes ope today at work. I skipped knitting group tonight and came home. I managed to knit a couple of rows on my Icarus without screwing up and now I am off to bed. Until next time ....

Progress or lack there of

So I have not made much knitting progress. I tried to start my second sock on Sunday while watching the Colts v Pats game but I kept dropping stitches and twisting the join. As any times as I have had to frog and reknit my Icarus I feel like I should be half way through with it. However, I have only completed the first repeat of chart 1. I do not want to jinx myself but I think I have finally been able to knit four rows of the second repeat correctly. However, I am exhausted so I may find an error tomorrow when I am more alert. Well this is a pretty boring entry. I hope to maybe have something more interesting for you later on. Until next time ....

A funny video

There is nothing more amusing than a 300+ lbs man returning an interception for a touchdown. The funniest thing was his teammates fanning him with towels and giving him the oxygen mask on the sidelines afterwards.

Book Meme

So I think I am in trouble because I am scrapping together material for NaBloPoMo on day four. However, I saw this meme on Tina's blog so I have something to post about.

The rules are open the book you're currently reading to page 161 and copy the fifth sentence on the page, then tag 5 bloggers.

I am currently reading The Ghosts of Sleath by James Herbert:

"Not deliberately, not intentionally - neglect was mostly a matter of carelessness rather than design."

I am only on page 90 so I do not know what the passage means yet. I do not tag so if you want to do the meme feel free. Until next time ....

Yarn and a Movie Exchange

Yesterday I came home to the most wonderful package. I joined the Halloween themed Yarn and a Movie Swap on the FiberFlix Ravelry group. My partner Jinxsa really spoiled me.

I love how she wrapped everything in little Halloween themed bags. I never thought to do that and feel so stupid now. I just placed all of her stuff in a box, not very creative there!

Here are all the goodies laid out. A needle case with some Knit Picks DPNs, Sugar Free Turtles, Halloween goodies, Shaun of the Dead, popcorn, yummy smelling soap and some beautiful sock yarn.

The yarn is Smooshy Sock Yarn from Dream in Color. The colorway is called Deep Seaflower and I love it. Thanks Jinxsa for a wonderful swap! Until next time ....

NaBloPoMo

Did you know that November is National Blog Posting Month? I learned about thia several years ago on Sherry's blog when she participated in NaBloPoMo. The aim is to write a blog post every day in November. If you can manage 30 posts then you are entered in a random drawing for prizes. I thought about joining last year but chickened out. This year I decided to bite the bullet and jump in with both feet.

However, this leaves me with a major issue - what will I post about for 30 days? I do not have a pet, child or amusing job to write about. I am also a pretty slow knitter so I do not want to post 30 pictures showing only 1" of progress on my projects. Therefore I am asking for your help. If there is anything you want to know about me leave a comment and I will write about it. However, I reserve the right to refuse to answer any question if I deem it to private or controversial. Let's been honest there are some things NO ONE needs to read about! Tomorrow I will post the wonderful package I received in the FiberFlix Yarn and a Movie swap I joined over at Ravelry. Until next time ....
