Spinning Away

Five years ago for my birthday my DH bought me a class on drop spindle spinning at a LYS. I took the class and then proceeded to leave the spindle and fiber to collect dust. Many times I looked at these things and thought I should just sell them but I never did. Fast forward to this year. I watch and listen to a lot of podcasts and they all seem to be spinners. So I decided to take the plunge for Tour de Fleece and spin for 15 minutes a day. I did miss one non-rest day but I managed to spin 15 minutes every day of the tour. Here are my wares (I have no idea what types of fiber these are but they came with my spindle from that class.

This is really bad. Very thick and thin. I wish I knew what type of fiber this was because I did not enjoy spinning it.

This gray fiber was much easier to spin but it did seem to come apart a lot. I do not know if that is because of the fiber or the spinner but it got frustrating at times.

This is what is on my spindle right now. I only have a little more of this to spin up and then I will move onto the fiber samples I in my Knit-Topia goodie bag. I do have some pretty purple and pink fiber I bought at a fiber festival right after I took the spinning class. I believe it is merino and angora. I want to wait to spin that up until I am a little better though. I alos need a lighter spindle because I want to spin fingering or DK weight and my spindle is more for worsted wight. I would love to buy a wheel but that is not in the cards right now. All in all I am enjoying the spindle process and will keep at it. I may not get in time vevery day but if I can spin 15-30 minutes 3 day week I will be very happy. Here's to a new adventure! Until next time ....

Just keep going - the more you spin, the better you will get at it :-)
