Wednesdays Are For the Hodgepodge

It is time to join in on the Hodgepodge for another week.

1. August is National Golf month...do you play? Do you enjoy following golf? Have you ever been to a professional tournament?

I do not play golf and I do not follow the sport. I actually find it quite boring. I do like to play putt-putt though. I have never been to a professional tournament.

2. Astronaut Jim Lovell of Apollo 13 fame passed away this past Thursday. Are you interested in outer space and what's happening today in terms of space exploration? If space travel became common in your lifetime would you go? How do you personally relate to the idea of exploring something vast and mysterious...does the idea excite you, intimidate you, or something else?

I have always loved space. I wanted to be an astronaut when I was younger but my poor eyesight and lack of math ability stopped that dream. If I could afford it I would love to be a space tourist. The idea of exploring something vast and mysterious does excite me but it is scary at the same time.

3. Describe your communication style in three words.

Only when necessary.

4. Do you have a favorite cookbook? A favorite celebrity chef? Do you watch any cooking shows on TV?

I really do not have a favorite cookbook. I used to watch Food Network all the time - Chopped, Paula Deen, Rachael Ray, Cutthroat Kitchen, Worst Cooks in America and Hell's Kitchen. I do not really watch them anymore though.

5. As a child did you have any back to school traditions? If so, did you carry on those same traditions with your own children? Do you have any back to school traditions you've started on your own?

When I was a kid really the only tradition was going back to school shopping during our vacation to the Upper Peninsula. With the boys I take a 1st day of school picture where they hold a sign with the date, grade and what they want to be when they grow up. Also, since it is always a first day is a half day I take the day off from work and we get lunch.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I really hate insurance companies. One of my diabetes meds was denied. However, they never told me or my doctor's office why. After 3 calls I finally got the answer today. My doctor's office is going to fill out the necessary paperwork and hopefully this will be taken care of sooner rather than later.

I feel like maybe some of the tv cooking programs have run their course. Most of the food shows now are more competitions as opposed to just cooking. I still love the British Baking Show. Hope you're having a great day!
