FOs: Scarf for Polar Bear and Flags

After finishing Clark's scarf he told me that his polar bear was cold a needed a scarf as well. Well we cannot have a cold polar bear in this house so I made him a simple 2x2 rib scarf to keep him warm.

Next up are the flags Clark requested.

He wanted them in his favorite colors of red, blue, yellow and green. These were a great use for some scraps in my stash. He was very excited when I gave them to him on Valentine's Day but they have been sitting on the table since. Oh well that is how it goes with 5 year olds. Until next time ....

FO: Fluffy Shawl

After all of the gift knitting was finished I decided that I needed to cast on something for myself. I wanted to us up some very old stash and have a mindless pattern so the Fluffy Shawl was born.

The yarn - the discontinued Madil Rebus - is very soft and fluffy hence the name of the project. The pattern is Chastain Park Shawl which has been in my queue for quite awhile. I really love it and have been wearing it to work most days in the little over a week since I finished it. All in all I am very happy with my first FO of 2014. Until next time ....

FO: Marion's Cowl

Here is the last Christmas gift to be posted. My dad's fiance wrote on her list that she wanted a circle scarf so I figured a knit infinity cowl would be perfect.

The pattern is the Aphelion Cowl an the yarn is Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool. I really enjoyed this pattern. It was easy to memorize but kept my interest. This was the last gift finished on Christmas Eve while I was at work tying to finish my 20 hours of training for the year. Until next time ....

FO: Nicole's 22.5 Degrees

Yes I am still slogging through my Christmas projects. Once I decided to make scarves for my nieces I knew I had to use the Etheral Fibers that I had in my stash. I knew the color would bring out the blue in her eyes. All I had to do was find a pattern. I thought about doing another Hitchhiker but I wanted to knit something new. However, I also wanted an easy pattern so I went looking at other Martina Behm patterns and came across 22.5 Degrees.

I love the edging but it killed my hands. I ran out of yarn with about an inch left to bind off but I was able to find a mini-skein that was very close and no one would be able to tell. Another successful gift. Until next time ....

FO: Baktus for Rachel

I decided that scarves would be perfect gifts for my nieces this year. I went through my queue and found the Baktus scarf that has been there for awhile. This really is not much of a pattern - I would call it more of a recipe. However, it was a very easy knit and went pretty quickly as well. This one is for the 14 year old Rachel.

The yarn is Garnstudio Drops Delight in a beautiful red, orange, black, tan and gray. I thought these colors would compliment her coloring and I think I was right.

She seemed to like it but she is14 and sometimes it can be hard to be sure. I also had to add this picture of my favorite little model wearing it.

Until next time ....

FO: Sunday Market Scarf

Back in October I went through and added all of the full balls in my stash to Ravelry. When I did I realized that I had a lot of yarn that I bought when first started knitting back in 2005. One of these was 2 balls of Moonlight Mohair in Coral Reef. I loved the dark blue and copper colors in the yarn and that is why I bought it. I decided that this yarn needed to get out of my stash so I went looking for projects and found the Sunday Market Shawl.

I cast on half the number of stitches so it is more of a scarf than a shawl. The pattern is very easy and got a bit monotonous toward the end. The yarn though was not fun to work with and I can see why it was discontinued. It was very splitty and bits of mohair were flying everywhere. Plus I think I may have a bit of an allergy to mohair since it made me a bit itchy. For this reason I will not be wearing it and it will go in the gift/charity pile. Until next time ....

Knitting Content Ahead

Even though I have not been blogging about knitting I have managed to complete five small projects so far in 2011. So without further ado I present the knitting of 2011.

Special Olympics Scarf Part Deux (Ravelry and FO Blog)

Swish With a Twist Dishcloth (Ravelry and FO Blog)

Beat the Winter Doldrums Cloth (Ravelry and FO Blog)

Cabbage Patch Cloth (Ravelry and FO Blog)

Elvish Leaves Dishcloth (Ravelry and FO Blog)

As you can tell right now quick and easy projects are about all I can handle right now. January and February are always the hardest months of the year for me and this is holding true for 2011. Of course the 10" of snow we got hit with last night does not help any. Luckily having this little guy around does help bring a little sunshine to our days.

This just goes to show that he definitely inherited the Clark family trait of being able to fall asleep almost anywhere. Until next time ....

Final FO of the Year

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas if you celebrate. Ours was very nice. My family went waaaayyyy overboard with the gifts. Clark got to a point where he wanted nothing to do with opening more presents. I received some books, season 5 of Supernatural on DVD, pajama pants, perfume and gift cards. Then we came home and I took a nap and then made ham and cheesy potatoes for dinner.

I have finished my last knitted object of 2010. This is the Flying Geese Dishcloth made with some more of my leftover dishcloth cotton stash.

Details as always are located here and here.
I started another scarf for the Special Olympics on our way to my dad's house on Christmas Day so that will be my first FO of 2011. Tomorrow will be the my recap of 2010 - it sure has been an interesting year. Until next time ....

Well It's For A Good Cause

Now I am most definetly not a yarn snob. While I do love the higher end yarns I do also work a lot with acrylics and acrylic blends. However, I can now say that there is an acrylic that I will never work with again. No offense to any of you out there who like it but red Hear Super Saver is awful to work with. It is very scratchy and feels awful in your hands. Now when was I working with this yarn? Well it was all for a good cause.

Come February this scarf will grace the neck of a Special Olympian from Michigan. The ladies from out knitting group are all knitting scarves for the cause. Details of this scarf are located here and here. So while the yarn sucks it is at least for a good cause. I hope whoever gets this scarf feels the love that it was knit with when they wrap it around their neck. Until next time ....
