My new endeavor

So I have a new endeavor to talk about. I have decided to start a media review blog. This is the place where I will talk about the books I read, the tv shows and movies I watch and the recipes I make. The link is right over there -------------------> and it is called Crazy Knitter Reviews. Up there right now are the posts I also have here about Jewels, After the Thin Man and The Shop Around the Corner. I also have the Emmy nominee list up with my winner predictions. I hope you guys make it over there and enjoy it. Until next time ....

FO and old movies

So I have an FO for you - don't get to excited it's only a dishcloth. This is the August Mid Month for the monthly dishcloth KAL group.

I love the pattern on this one. As always details are here. I now have only three projects going. I am working on the Knit for the Cure dishcloth that was in time out for awhile, my Irish hiking scarf and a book mark for my next exchange partner.

I don't think I have ever mentioned this here but I love old classic movies. One of my favorite cable channels is TCM. So I have decided to keep track of some of the movies - classic and otherwise - that I watch here.

The first one I watched was After the Thin Man from 1936. It stars Myrna Loy and William Powell as Nora and Nick Charles - a married couple who also are detectives. There were 6 movies in the Thin Man series. In this movie they are trying to solve the murder of the husband of Nora's cousin, Selma. The movie is quite funny and has one of the best lines I have heard in a movie. At the beginning, Mr and Mrs Charles are on a train from New York to San Francisco. Nora asks Charles if he is packing. He answers her, as he is drinking, "yes dear I'm packing, packing away this liquor". I love that line. This movies also stars a young Jimmy Stewart as the love Selma left behind. As an added bonus Nora is knitting at the end. I give this movie 3 out of 4 stars.

The next movie I watched was The Shop Around the Corner from 1940 staring Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan. They are co-workers who can't stand each other. The only problem is that they are also anonymous pen pals who are falling in love. This movie was eventually remade as You've Got Mail. This is a very sweet love story that actually stands the test of time. Jimmy Stewart shines as the leading man - the perpetual nice guy. I a;so give this movie 3 out of 4 stars.

Next up are two Cary Grant movies, Arsenic and Old Lace
and Suspicion. Until next time ....

Anniversary and a finished book

So today is a very special day for my hubby and me. We met 7 years ago today. Sometimes it seems like it has been longer, sometimes it seems like it has been only a few months. There were plenty of times when I thought we would never make it to where we are today. It has been a wonderful - and eventful - 7 years.

Since I have not had a lot of knitting content lately I have decided to do other things with this blog. One of those things is to keep track of the books I am reading. Today I finished Jewels by Danielle Steel. It is the story of Sarah and William, the Duke and Duchess of Whitfield. It follows them and their children from WWII through the 80s. It is a wonderful love story. I love Danielle Steel books for brain candy. She is not the best author in the world but her books are fun and easy reading. Next up I am reading Gerald's Game by Stephen King. Jewels was the 8th book I read this year - the others were Knit One Kill Two, At Knit's End, Needled to Death, The Shop on Blossom Street, The Secret Life of Knitter, The DaVinci Code and The Phantom of the Opera. Well, I read about knitting a lot. To bad it doesn't help my projects get closer to completion. Until next time ....

Uninspired

I am feeling so uninspired lately. I have a million thoughts and plans stirring around in my head but I can not seem to be able to do anything. Maybe uninspired isn't the correct word but it is the only one I can come up with. I can't seem to get my knitting or writing done like I want to. I am working on the KAL for the dishcloth group and I need to start working on my exchange package for the bookmark swap. I am hoping that this phase passes soon - I hate this blah feeling.

Since I've got nothing else here is another quiz for you

You Are Fozzie Bear

"Wocka! Wocka!"
You're the life of the party, and you love making people crack up.
If only your routine didn't always bomb!
You may find more groans than laughs, but always keep the jokes coming.

I love Fozzy! He's one of my favorites. Until next time ....

Irish Hiking Scarf and Some FOs

So I am making pretty good progress on the Irish Hiking Scarf.

This is a great project for a cable virgin. It is very easy and I love the way it is coming out. I am using Cascade 220 in a beautiful dark plum color. Here is a closeup of the cables

I can not believe how incredibly easy this project is. I was kind of intimidated by cables and now I can not wait to do more cabled projects.

I have also update my FO blog with the two bookmarks I made while on vacation. I sprayed them with regular spray starch and it stiffened them up wonderfully. The bonus is that a huge can of the stuff only costs $1. I also added my August KAL for the dishcloth group that I finished last night. It was a cute and easy pattern.

Now I need to get back to knitting my scarf and watching the AMC enhanced version of one of my all time favorite movies. I I love the enhanced version because it gives you great trivia and interesting facts about the movie - I love that stuff. Also, for you fellow Michael J. Fox fans out there I highly recommend his memoir - it is amazing. Until next time ....

And a quiz for you

I'm Baaaaaaack!!!

So we got back from our vacation yesterday. We had a great time but I am glad to be home.

I will miss this view out my window each morning. We watched movies, read, I knit and all in all we just relaxed. It is great to wake up every morning without a care in the world. I finished 5 dishcloths and 2 bookmarks while up there. I also started the Irish Hiking Scarf and I am liking how it is coming out. I updated my FO blog except for the bookmarks and a dishcloth I am currently blocking. Now I need to get mentally ready to go back to work tomorrow.

We had some great thrift store finds while we were up there. Hubby found The Complete Tales and Poems of Winnie the Pooh at the Goodwill in Marquette for $8.99 and he snatched it up since he knows that when the time comes I want to decorate our nursery in Winnie the Pooh. I found yarn at the Salvation Army in Houghton. I bought 8 skeins of Good Shepard Tulip Tweed which is 100% acrylic but is so soft and yummy. I also found 2 skeins if Sirdar Snuggly in my favorite color purple. These are for projects yet to be determined.

When I got home yesterday I had a wonderful surprise waiting for me in the mailbox. I received my package from my dishcloth exchange partner and she really spoiled me. She sent me a nice note, a yummy smelling vanilla sugar soap, some beautiful purple stitch markers and a wonderful dishcloth.

Here's a closeup of the beautiful dragonfly pattern. I don't know what yarn she used but it is the softest cotton yarn I have felt yet. It makes the Sugar 'n Cream feel like sandpaper. Thanks Laurie - it was a wonderful gift! Now I need to get my package in the mail - either tomorrow or Tuesday. I hope my partner likes hers as much as I like mine.

So that's my update. Now I need to make dinner and start on my August KAL. Until next time ....
