An Actual Finished Object!

I have an actual finished object, my first since February. The third time was a charm for the Clark Sweater.

The pattern is the Teddy Cardigan from Lion Brand and I used 1.5 skeins of Vanna's Choice in Brick. The yarn is not the greatest but for a baby knit it will do. I messed up the buttonhole placement but overall I am happy with it. I found 4 elephant buttons at JoAnn's that I couldn't resist. More details located here and here. Here it is modeled by the recipient.

He was tired and ready to start our walk in the park so he was not the most cooperative model. However, he looks very adorable in it and I am glad the weather has been unseasonably cool so he can actually wear it a few times.

In real life issues the reason I am posting at 3pm on Wednesday afternoon is because I am no longer employed. I was laid off from my job on May 18th. I was not surprised but it still stung a little. After working there for almost 6 years and doing eveything they asked of me without complaint it felt like a smack in the face. Especially considering how some people do nothing but complain or surf the web all day. I am over it now though and I am looking at this as an opportunity. I am planning on taking my money from the No Worker Left Behind program and going back to school to become a medical biller. However, right now I am just sending resumes out even though I have unemployment. In this job market you just can not wait anymore. I had an interview yesterday but I was interview number 2 out of 28 for the first round so I am not holding my breath. So as of right now I am a SAHM which has been interesting. Unil next time ....

Actual Knitting Content

Brace yourselves people there is actual knitting content ahead. First off my Holland socks. I am about halfway through the heel flap of the second sock. Maybe at this rate I will have them done in just under a year!

Next up is my 3rd attempt to make a sweater for Clark. I have finished the left front and am making my way through the back. At this rate it will be done just in time for 90 degree weather!

So my surgery went well. My knitting mojo left me the week I was off of work of course so not much got done on the knitting front. My company filed for Chapter 11 while I was off so work is very tense right now. I have also broken down and joined the timesuck known as Facebook. I am located here. Until next time ....

Another One Bites the Dust

I have yet another FO for you. I cast on for a Mock Cable Baby Hat on the day I messed up his sweater and to frog it. It was a very quick and easy pattern. Plus Clark looks so cute wearing it!

Details located on Ravelry and my Finished Object Blog.

I have started what I am calling the Clark Sweater Part Deux. I hope to keep this one from meeting the same tragic fate that the first one met. However, if I don't knit faster it will not fit him once it is done. Wish me luck! Until next time ....

Random Musings

There is not much going on around here. I am really getting tired of winter and I am ready for January to get the hell out of here. So in lieu of anything of substance I give you some random musings.

1) I screwed up Clark's sweater and had to frog it. I will try again once I get the strength.
2) I started a hat for him and hope to have it finished before it is 80 degrees.
3) Work has been scary slow. Yesterday 22 people were laid off company wide. I try not to worry but it is hard not to.
4) I can honestly say I have never been this broke in my life. In case you didn't know babies are expensive!

So here is a picture to tide you over. We have some huge icicles hanging off our roof in the back of our townhouse.

Until next time ....

I am even boring myself!

That is why I have not updated. I go to work, come home, eat dinner, spend time with the stinkerdoodle and go to bed. Lather, rinse and repeat. I have not been knitting very much because I do not have the mental capacity at this time. I am ready to join the sleeves and start the neckband on Clark's sweater but I keep messing it up. Maybe with the long weekend coming up I will be able to get it done. If I can get rid of this cold already. The baby got his first cold at daycare and decided to share it with me. That is something he could have kept to himself!

My sister and I went to lunch and to see The Secret Life of Bees yesterday. I will admit that I had not read the book but the movie was very good. However, bring your tissues because you will need them. It was nice to get out of the house for a few hours before the runny nose and sore throat hit me! Until next time ....

Sweater Update

In my self imposed sock knitting hiatus I managed to get a lot done on the Clark sweater. The body is finished except for the neckband.

I have cast on for sleeve #1 but have not gotten very far. I also need to decide if I want to knit a hood or not. Right now I am leaning toward the hood but that could change. I would love to have this done so Clark can wear it in our Christmas card picture. If I am running short on time the hood will probably get scrapped. I love this pattern. It is very easy for a sweater newbie like myself. After this maybe I will finally get up the nerve to knit my sweater that I bought the yarn for almost 2 years ago! Until next time ....

WIP 'em out Saturday

I currently have three WIPs on the needles. With the amount of knitting time I have these days they will be finished sometime when Clark goes to kindergarten! So here are some progress pictures.

First up what I am calling my Holland socks. This is the Through the Loops mystery sock KAL pattern. I just finished the cuff. I am going to do the basic version of the leg since I do not have the brain power right now to follow the cable chart. The yarn is Regia's Kaffee Fassett line that I bought in Holland back in July.

Next, I have the Every Day, Any Day dishcloth from the Monthly Dishcloth KAL group. The yarn is Sugar 'n Cream in Strawberry. This pattern in interesting since you do a reverse YO and then on the next row you purl it through the back loop. Not the hardest pattern but you do need to pay attention.

Finally, I am calling this the Clark sweater. The pattern is Daisy by the Yarn Harlot from Knitty. I am doing the plain version in the 6-12 month size. The yarn is Lion Brand Microspun in Turquoise. I would love for him to wear this in the photo I will take for our Christmas card but I am not sure if it will be finished in time.

I need to get knitting since the baby is with his Daddy - they went to Grandma's house - and I have some alone time. Until next time ....
